The Color Champagne
Champagne is the neutral color that isn’t boring. It’s festive!
As you can imagine, the color Champagne is named after the famous sparkling wine in France’s Champagne region. While the sparkling wine itself was first created in the 1600’s, the use of the word champagne as a color only entered the English language in 1915.

There’s a reason we reach for the word champagne when we want to describe something special. It isn’t flashy like gold or stark like ivory. Instead, champagne carries a soft radiance — a whisper of celebration woven into a neutral hue.

Champagne lives somewhere between beige, cream, and pale gold. It has warmth, but not too much. It reflects light beautifully, without demanding attention. Think of the color champagne as a softer, more sophisticated version of gold or beige. Unlike bright white, which can feel crisp or cool, champagne feels inviting — almost sun-kissed. While the Maya people centuries ago would not have known the word champagne, they deeply valued gold for its connection to the sun — its brilliance, warmth, and life-giving presence. In many ways, champagne echoes that same quiet luminosity.
Mayamam Weavers was first established as a brand offering beautiful, vibrant, colorful handmade products for men, women, children and the home. Several years ago as we looked at the marketplace, we realized something was missing. We wanted to create a softer neutral — something understated, but not pastel.

Our designer first introduced the Champagne & Pearls Scarf which was made using champagne, cream and pearl gray yarns which were then framed with a thin black edge. The response surprised us. The scarves quickly became a favorite, and we carried the theme into our table linens — first with adding champagne to the Cuadritos Collection followed shortly by the Celebration Collection.

Our two most recent introductions of champagne products are the Champagne Cuadritos Mini Jewelry Roll and the Champagne with Cream Wrap. Both are beautiful examples of how this hue and the craftsmanship come together — where subtle color meets skilled hands. In each piece, champagne quietly enhances the handwoven texture, allowing the detail, structure, and finishing to shine. The result is understated yet refined.

Champagne is a color that truly flatters everything around it. In interiors, it softens wood tones and enriches deeper hues. In textiles, it highlights texture — handwoven cotton, raw silk, brushed linen — allowing craftsmanship to shine. Timeless and versatile, champagne can be paired with white just as easily as a dusty rose and on to a navy. It’s the perfect backdrop for a meaningful meal. A champagne table runner catches candlelight during a gathering. It is the color that can elevate a space from everyday to occasion-ready. It reminds us that celebration doesn’t have to be reserved for milestones, it’s as simple as of setting the table with intention.
