OUR STORY
Mayamam Weavers is a collective of talented female artists, makers and businesswomen based in Cajolá, Guatemala. We care about providing you with high-quality textiles born out of our tradition, while enriching and serving the community where we live and work.
It all began with a small group of women and a big idea. In the western highlands of Guatemala, the first members of the collective and the US team came together to form a business that would build upon the craft of our ancestors. Initially, Caryn Maxim of the US team worked closely with the women in the collective to get everything up and running. Each of our members received training to acquire specialty skills in textile design and production while developing their business acumen. The roles have shifted over time, and now the women have full autonomy—building markets on their own within Guatemala and with other US import sources. As buyers of the products, the US team is now one of many sources of revenue for the collective.
We take pride in growing our business, engaging with our cultural traditions, and sharing a piece of those traditions with the world.

We stand for sustainable and equitable partnerships and wages. Each of our team members receives on-site training, learning the craft and the business, with opportunities for growth and support in further professional development. We are proud members of the Fair Trade Federation.
Committed to serving our community
Our collective provides an on-site preschool, after school tutoring, and scholarships for the women and their families. The employment provided by the collective leads to financial independence for our members, making it possible for them and their families to stay in our community and maintain our traditions. The skills, expanded knowledge, and experience of success reaches beyond the collective to the broader community and the next generation.
