COVID-19 Update

October 21, 2020 Update

COVID-19 has been running its course in Cajolá. There are not many tests available, but the tests that have been administered have generally had positive

results. Many people have had flu like symptoms. The good news is that very few people have been extremely ill, and those that have died have generally been older people. The best news is that with the onset and passing of COVID-19, the fear and confusion have gone, and people are beginning to reclaim their ordinary lives!

The preschool has begun classes with all the children, though for half days. The teachers have had to be creative in designing activities where they children can stay socially distant. However the children and their parents are so happy to be back!

In our weaving cooperative we are still practicing social distancing at work or in meetings, wearing masks, and sanitizing hands regularly. The women are working full time and a little bit on weekends, and slowly but surely catching up on the backlog. Most of our products are back in stock, with just a few out of stock due to the long lead time for materials. And with our new products, we are ready for the holiday season!

We continue to be grateful for your support during these difficult times. Nearly all of our in-person events for the holidays have been cancelled, but we are looking for innovative ways to show off our new (and old) products for this popular gift giving time.

Covid-19 in Guatemala

The airport in Guatemala re opened on September 18th, perhaps a sign of starting the road to recovery. This is in spite of the fact that COVID-19 is still spreading, that there is still not enough protective equipment for the medical staff nor any medications to treat the very ill people. The tourism industry feels they will be accepting international tourists as 2021 gets underway.
